Thanks for such great tutorial videos... the best.
One of the things I have trouble dealing with is SketchUp's snapping. Usually it's great and really speeds the process but there are times when we may not want to conform to normal alignments, etc., and it's a real struggle to come up with something 'unusual'.
Is there a way to turn this feature off and on or what?
unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you talk to), the snapping feature is not something you can turn off.
the sensitivity of the snapping is based on how close or far you're zoomed in on the various points/edges/midpoints in your model. so if you're trying to draw something and the snapping is getting in the way, the best thing you can do is zoom in closer.
otherwise, the tape measure and protractor tools are good for creating construction guides at any distance or angle. then you can deliberately snap to those.
you also have control over the position of the axes. you can use the Axes tool to re-position the axes in the model, and then draw shapes that are aligned to the new axis position.
