Hi,
I would like to model a vanity and I have tried the push pull and follow me tool...they work great but just not for this.
Also, I have seen a hand basin in 3d warehouse and wondered how they modeled it.
I am thinking that I would need to create a wire mesh and then and then have it generate a surface for me since the hand basin has a complex geometry. By this I mean, that the top of the basin has a unique profile but then the bowl itself has different radii as you move around the basin all finally leading to the drain.
Well, thanks for any replies.
RE: Complex Geometry
can you post a link to the model on the warehouse that you're referring to? it is possible to create the kinds of objects you're describing in SketchUp using tools like follow-me, the sandbox tools, etc. In some cases you may find it useful to employ plugins like the Tools On Surface Ruby scripts, or the Subdivide and Smooth rubies (both can be googled).
you might also try breaking complex objects up into components, whereby one half of the model is a component that is copied and flipped. that way you'll only have to model 1/2 of the object.
that all being said, my guess is that the objects you're seeign on the 3D Warehouse were probably modeled in another program and then exported in either 3D DXF, 3D DWG, or 3DS format—then imported into SketchUp. one option would be to contact the modeler who posted the object to the warehouse directly and ask them how they did it.
RE: Complex Geometry
Thanks for your reply....here is a link to a toilet I saw on 3dwarehouse:

RE: many many follow-me's
Hi
I think this might be the right place to post/ask this:
I'm making a giant truss / bridge, the edges of which are defined by 3 curving members (curving in x, y, and z directions). I've defined those members nicely by drawing my path, and doing "follow me" with a circle along the paths.
I want to create all the "inner" or diagonal members now, and I've defined/drawn the paths of all of those (about 72 of them: each basically a scalene triangle), and i've made the faces I want to extrude along them, and set them "normal" to (or perpendicular to) the first line on the path. Is there a quicker way (or a script out there) to "follow me" along these lines? Like, can I pick the face, then the line, and have it all done?
Also, any way to have these Linked, as in, if I modify the lines, the follow me extrusion automatically adjusts? or is that too parametric?
thanks,
Tom Gallagher
