When I import a CAD file into my skp model, the whole model slows and skips. I can turn off the layer I put the CAD work on and the model moves freely again. I have tried to purge in both skp and CAD and the problem persists. The CAD files are small and don't have much more than walls, windows, doors, and stairs drawn in. Is there a way to speed up my model while I trace the CAD?
can you send some info about your computer's specs (i.e. processor speed, RAM, graphics card info)? also, how many polygons are in the model (to find out, go to Window > Model Info > Statistics)?
i would suspect that your computer's graphics card is maybe having some trouble rendering all of the lines in your CAD plan.
you might try adjusting the Open GL settings in the SketchUP preferences pane.
on a MAC go to SketchUp > Preferences > Open GL
on a PC go to Window > Preferences > Open GL
try un-checking both of the boxes for 'hardware acceleration' and 'use fast feedback'.
also, check to make sure that the shadow are turned off, and that you don't have any graphic styles applied to the model.
