I'm a Sign Designer who could really use some help! Finding Sketchup has been a Godsend for my Sign business. Yet, I've discovered a continual hurdle during my creation process. I need to be able to show a line of 3D Text on a flat surface bowed up or down or on a convexed and/or concaved surface for my conceptual designs of signs.

Currently, I've been creating a jpeg image of the Sign copy (using the font I've selected) and applyed the 2D image as a texture to the surface of my sign creation. Then I use the image as a template or guide to apply individual 3D letters to the surface. It's the only method that I could come up with, which is extremely time consuming.

Can anyone suggest a different method? Please....

if you've got a PC, you might try Elefont. i've never used it, but i know some people who use it to create 3D text that they bring into SKP. not sure if it does curved 3D text though.

kudos for the image based method you've devised. very creative, but yeah, i can see how that would be pretty time consuming. wish i had a better answer for you on this one. i've only ever had to do that in SKP once, and i just manually moved and rotated each letter.

worst case, there are a bunch of other modeling apps with more robust 3D text options. you could try using an app like Cinema 4D for the text part, and then export/import as .3DS and then model the rest of it in SKP.
